Plastic Logic eReader
Oct 20th, 2009 | By Gene A. Wright | Category: Breakout Topics, Information Technology, Innovation, Marketing, New Product Management, TechnologyOk, here is some more information and a look at the Plastic Logic eReader. Looks pretty cool to me.
We read that the Que may be actually targeted at something other than the Kindle. ” But Archuleta also repositions the Que as something a little different to merely being a Kindle killer e-reader device. He notes “Que enhances business performance and gives you a competitive edge.” The business angle’s also played up with mention of support for PDF, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel…and there’s even the intriguing phrase “powerful tools for interacting with and managing the content.” That implies you may be able to do more than just annotate documents on the Que–will you be able to actually edit them, or run a Powerpoint presentation? We can’t tell yet, but it certainly seems that Plastic Logic’s Que will enter the e-reader game right at the top end, perhaps tending toward limited Tablet PC capabilities.”
What do you think? Pretty cool? Will the market handle a “premium product”? Does this seem to square off with the new tablets that we read are coming? DO you want one?

I totally want one. As a netbook early adopter, I have come to loathe the footprint of my work desktop. This is where things are going and overall, this move is great on many levels. Less paper, less industry while growing accessibility to information, anywhere, any time.
what’s not to love?
It sounds great but the final specs aren’t out until January 7th for CES… market is getting crowded, the only play left is a niche play so they have to make it high end… What happens if you can do more of this stuff on iphone including projection with micro projectors…?

I will definitely want one of these readers. But with all this features it look like I will be better just to get a mini laptop, all though the business model of this devices it seem to fallow in the same category than the Ipod , this type of devices don’t necessary provide any new service, but what they do is to alternate the industry of whatever they liked to. I don’t think this product is going to have the same intense impact on the industry, because not everybody reads as oppose to music everybody likes music.
When I read this article it made me think of those little pads they used in Star Trek. I used to be kind of a die hard Trek fan, but mostly the newer stuff. They used the pads a little in NG, but from my memory quite a lot in deep space nine. The pads seem to have access to all the data in the world, but fit in your hand like a small journal. I remember thinking in college some day my pentium II will be that small, but how could it ever contain all that data on the hard drive. Of course this is prior WIFI technology. I think the QUE may be the first star trek data Pad.
This looks like it could be a very interesting device. I am eagerly waiting to see the first wave of touch-screen tablet type computing devices. The iPad was a let down, having no USB ports and lacking multitasking. I believe these devices are a significant step and will change the frequency with which we interact with computing devices on a daily basis. Eventually, we could completely free ourselves from paper based documents and go all digital. A exciting idea, although still quite a ways off.
The e-reader is going to one of those explosive markets similar to the cell phone or computer. At some point during the products acceptance into the market consumers purchasing the product will be opening an outdated product when they get it home. Technology is advancing so quickly with these devices that manufacturers can’t decide what features to include in the product. Get the product in the hands of the consumer and start building a relationship with them. They may become brand loyalists; it worked for Apple.
I like the Kindle but feel its a one purpose device. I also like to have the accual book to add to my library in my office.
If this device is compadable with business applications that would be helpful. Im interested to see what features it offers to give me a competitive advantage, which I’m always looking for.
